INSECTICIDES
RESIDUAL CONTROL
WETTABLE POWDERS Wettable
powders (WP) are formulated to provide exceptional residual control. The active
ingredient is mixed or adsorbed onto a mineral filler (depending whether the active
is a liquid or solid at ambient temperatures). Dispersants and surface-active
agents are added so that the formulation can be mixed with water for ease of application.
This formulation type is especially useful for the treatment of highly absorbent
surfaces such as brick, mud or some wood because after application the active
ingredient (and filler) is left on the surface as a microscopic, insecticidally
active, high strength dust that is readily picked up when an insect walks over
it. The three formulations below all provide extremely good
residual control on difficult surfaces that are important in vector control programmes,
general rural situations or situations where exceptionally long control is required.

and 30 g/kg piperonyl butoxide Available both in 10g soluble sachets
or a 250g pot with a measuring scoop. The standard rate of use is 10g product
diluted in 5 litres water. This product combines excellent residual control with
good flushing and knockdown activity of the target pest. A standard compression
sprayer applies the produc.

LIQUID
CONCENTRATES |
| | | |
Some
concentrates are intended for dilution only with water, some only with oil (kerosene
or diesel) and some concentrates can be diluted with either oil or water. Depending
on the product formulation application of the diluted ready-for-use product can
be made through hot or cold fogging device. As the name suggests such products
are usually applied into the air at the time when the target insects, flies or
mosquitoes, are most active. This may be during the day for flies or certain species
of mosquito or at dusk for most biting insects (most mosquitoes, midges etc).
there are many products available for use as space treatment agents. They differ
specifically in regard to the nature and quantity of killing agent (potency),
the quantity of additional knock-down agent (speed of control) and the levels
of synergist present (durability of control in respect of actual or perceived
insecticide tolerance)
| | | |
Suspension
Concentrate (SC) In this formulation type an insecticide active ingredient
is adsorbed onto a filler which is then suspended in a liquid matrix (usually
water). This formulation type has many of the benefits of a WP without some of
the disadvantages, SCs are non-dusty, easier to dose and disperse in water.
Like WPs when an SC is sprayed onto a sorbtive surface the insecticidal
particles remain on the surface of the substrate where they are readily available
to the target pest. Suspension concentrates therefore provide a good level of
residual control on a wide range of surfaces. An example of a suspension concentrate
offered by PelGar is given below.
| | | |
Cytrol
Alpha 5 SC Containing 50 g/l alpha-cypermethrin Available
in a 500 ml auto-dose bottle. The standard rate of use is 25ml product diluted
in 5 litres water. A standard compression sprayer applies the product.
| | | |
Cytrol
Alpha 10 SC Containing 100 g/l alphacypermethrin Available
in pack sizes up to 5 litres. The standard rate of use is 25 ml product diluted
in 5 litres water. A standard compression, or vehicle mounted motorised hydraulic
sprayer can be used to apply the product which is especially formulated for pest
control in municipal waste management situations
| | | |
Suspo-Emulsion
(SE) This type of formulation has the benefits indicated above for SCs
but also incorporates another active ingredient, often a knockdown agent, in the
liquid phase so combining good residual control with fast flushing and knockdown
of the target pest | |
| | | |
Cytrol
Alpha Super SE Containing 50 g/l alpha-cypermethrin and
50 g/l tetramethrin Available in a 500 ml auto-dose bottle. The standard
rate of use is 25ml product diluted in 5 litres water. A standard compression
sprayer applies the product.
| | | |
Micro-Emulsion
(ME) This formulation type presents the active ingredient as extremely
small droplets, sometimes referred to as nano-technology, in a solvent-free, high
surfactant liquid phase. ME concentrates have a slightly soapy smell' and
dilute in water to provide a clear, stable ready-for-use liquid. This provides
a concentrate that dilutes in water to provide a clear, very stable product. The
small droplets of active substance provide an extraordinarily large number of
point sources of contact which make it impossible for the target insect to avoid
chemical pick-upon a treated surface. The high loading of surfactants
also facilitates the rapid penetration of the insects cuticle. This formulation
type provides excellent residual control on non-sorbtive surfaces such as metal,
ceramic tiles etc. but is not as effective on sorbtive surfaces when compared
with SCs and WPs. PelGar has developed a range of ME's incorporating
combinations of conventional killing agents, knockdown agents, metabolic synergists
and insect growth regulators.

Tyrant Super ME
Containing 50 g/l alpha-cypermethrin and 50
g/l tetramethrin plus the metabolic synergist piperonyl butoxide
The standard rate of use is 60ml product diluted in 5 litres
water. This product is suitable for use against a wide range
of crawling pests and offers especially where pyrethroid tolerance
is suspected. A standard compression sprayer applies the product.

exceptionally high level of the metabolic synergist piperonyl
butoxide
The standard rate of use is 60ml product diluted in 5 litres

Stingray
ME Containing 50 g/l alpha-cypermethrin, 50 g/l tetramethrin
and 20 g/l pyriproxyfen plus the metabolic synergist piperonyl butoxide The
standard rate of use is 25ml product diluted in 5 litres water. Stingray is the
ultimate professional pest control product combining a synergised pyrethroid killing
agent and a knock-down agent supported by a potent IGR, pyriproxyfen, having a
completely different mode of action. A comprehensive Resistance Buster.
A standard compression sprayer applies the product. |

| | | |
Oil
in Water Emulsions (EW) In this formulation type the active ingredient
is dissolved in a small quantity of oil that is then dispersed in water to produce
a stable milky liquid. This type of formulation greatly reduces the amount of
organic solvent used when compared to, for example, to emulsifiable concentrates.
As with MEs this formulation type is particularly useful to use on non-sorbtive
surfaces where the active ingredient will not be sucked into the matrix of the
substrate. PelGar has particularly used this formulation type to develop a
range of products based on the insect growth regulator pyriproxyfen.

Cimetrol
Containing 50 g/l alpha-cypermethrin, 20 g/l
pyriproxyfen and 50 g/l tetramethrin
The standard rate of use is 25ml product diluted in 5 litres
water.. This product provides excellent long-term control
of crawling insects and is especially formulated to provide
effective control of bedbugs and fleas. The incorporation
of a potent IGR, pyriproxyfen, offers a dual mode of attack
on pests showing pyrethroid tolerance. A standard compression
sprayer applies the product.

DUSTABLE
POWDERS | |
PelGar
has developed an extensive range of insecticides primarily for use by professional
users in the pest control of vector control markets. DP's are very simple formulations
where the active ingredient is mixed with a filler of small particle size. There
are no emulsifiers or surface-active agents and so DP's are not miscible with
water (unlike WP's). These simple formulations are used to dust an
infested area and the target pest picks up a lethal dose as it walks through the
dust. This formulation type leaves a very visible deposit so is only of use in
certain situations. The entire range is too extensive to list hear but the
selection on this site should provide an indication of the main product types.
